Traditional Cape Town City Tour

Traditional Cape Town City Tour

Cape Town’s iconic introduction

If you’re short on time but don’t want to miss Cape Town’s most famous sights, this private half-day experience combines a visit to Table Mountain with a journey through the city’s historic heart.

Traditionally, this has been Cape Town’s classic city tour—and while our walking experiences offer a deeper exploration of the city, this tour is perfect if your schedule only allows for half a day. You’ll experience spectacular mountain views, wander through the beautiful Company’s Garden, discover the colourful streets of the Bo-Kaap, and enjoy a short orientation drive through the city as your guide shares the stories that have shaped Cape Town into the vibrant city it is today.

It’s the perfect introduction to the Mother City—and a wonderful first taste of Cape Town.

Begin with Table Mountain

Ascending Table Mountain in winter is magical as the proteas are in full flower!

Whenever possible, we recommend starting your tour in the morning. The mountain is generally quieter, visibility is often at its best, and during the summer months the afternoon winds frequently strengthen, which can result in the cableway closing for safety reasons.

Afternoon departures are certainly possible, but for the best overall experience we recommend a morning tour.

Your guide will accompany you up the Table Mountain Cableway (weather permitting), where you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across Cape Town, the Atlantic coastline and the surrounding mountains.

To make the most of your time, we also recommend purchasing Fast Track tickets in advance. Although they are more expensive than the standard ticket, they can save several hours of queuing during busy periods—meaning more time enjoying the mountain and less time waiting in line.

Please note: Table Mountain only closes when strong winds make it unsafe for the cableway to operate. Cloud cover alone does not usually prevent the cableway from running.

Discover Cape Town’s historic heart

After descending the mountain, we’ll continue into the city for a relaxed introduction to Cape Town’s rich history and cultural diversity.

We’ll stroll through Company’s Garden, the oldest public garden in South Africa, before exploring the colourful streets of the Bo-Kaap, home to Cape Town’s historic Cape Malay community. Along the way, your guide will share the stories, people and events that have shaped the city over more than 350 years.

We’ll finish with a short orientation drive through the city before returning you to your hotel or another central location.

Although this is a shorter experience, it’s still very much the Cape Fusion way of touring—private, personal and filled with the stories that help you understand the Cape beyond the guidebooks.

If Table Mountain is closed

Table Mountain is one of nature’s great attractions, so the weather is always in charge.

If strong winds prevent the cableway from operating, we’ll simply spend more time exploring Cape Town instead. Your Table Mountain tickets can then be used later during your stay when conditions improve.

Extend Your Cape Town City Tour day

Why not continue discovering Cape Town after your morning tour?

Popular afternoon options include a visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden or a private Constantia Wine Tour, allowing you to experience even more of the Cape in a single day.

Now that you’ve discovered the city, why not continue your journey?

The dramatic coastline of the Cape Peninsula and the world-renowned Cape Winelands offer two completely different perspectives on the Cape—both with the same private, personalised Cape Fusion experience.

After our visit to the Mountain – we head to the Company Gardens – the oldest part of Cape Town – for a walk through this historic part of Cape Town.

Discover the Cape Over Three Unforgettable Days

We believe the best way to experience Cape Town is to give yourself time to discover its many different sides.

Our recommendation is simple:

Day One – Explore the city’s history, neighbourhoods and cultures.

Day Two – Discover the spectacular Cape Peninsula, its dramatic scenery and coastal communities.

Day Three – Experience the Cape Winelands, where beautiful landscapes, exceptional wines and memorable food come together.

Together, these experiences offer a true taste of the Cape.
