Cape Town Update September 2020 – Spring!

Cape Town Update September 2020 – Spring!

Wow!  What a roller coaster of a year!    We came out of a tough 2019  (our drought scared people away from visiting Cape Town) and entered into 2020.   The year looked like it was off to a great start and we were almost fully booked for May & June.   Our forward  bookings were looking wonderful and I was ready to do a happy dance. South Africa Lock Down! In March our world started coming to an abrupt halt as…

Chef’s Table Cape Town in the home of Chef Santi Louzán

Chef’s Table Cape Town in the home of Chef Santi Louzán

Chef Santi Louzán is the perfect Chef to launch a Chef’s table in his home in Cape Town.   He is warm, welcoming, creative, a showman and one of the most charismatic people I have ever met.  Santi hails from Galicia in Spain.  Here he learnt from his Mom and Granny to “love the ingredients” – he was surrounded by artisans and family members who were farmers and fisherman.   In his teens he moved to England with his family.   He started at…

Quirky new restaurants in Cape Town – The South China Dim Sum Bar in Long Street

Mzoli’s – a truly African experience in a township in Cape Town

Mzoli’s is a smash hit among both the township locals and visitors to the Cape who are keen to get a feel of “real” Africa.   Mzoli’s is an African food BBQ/Braai restaurant located in the heart of Gugulethu township.  In Africa a meal is not complete unless there is meat!  So, whatever you do, do not take your vegetarian friends with you! Note that in order to get there you have venture into the township areas of Cape Town…

MIDDELVLEI BOERE BRAAI (Farmer BBQ) PAIRED WITH PINOTAGE

MIDDELVLEI BOERE BRAAI (Farmer BBQ) PAIRED WITH PINOTAGE

A great addition to the Stellenbosch winelands is the opportunity for you to experience a traditional South African Braai at Middelvlei Wine Estate.  Braaing (BBQing) is a national pass time in South Africa during summer.  On any summer’s night this is our standard way of entertaining with friends. In South Africa the most standard Braai always includes red meat – in fact it can include steak, chops, Boerewors (Farmer sausage), chicken (often served as a sosatie – like a kebab),…
