Karin Schmidt is a talented and dynamic lady. She wears many “hats”. As a former executive chef she still consults in the food industry. In addition she is very involved with social upliftment projects to provide people with skills in order to find jobs. Karin is passionate about the Cape, our cuisine, our food artisans and our history. She was already an experienced guide when she joined our team in 2023. She takes the time to get to know each guest and tailor makes each day of touring to their interests. Her excitement about our beautiful Cape is contagious. Tour with her and you will fall in love with our city. Karin goes above and beyond with every guest she tours with and delivers excellent service.

“ Cooking has always been the back bone of our family: Stories of Great – Grand Fathers being Chef on board Ship en route to Cape Town back in the day, Muizenberg & Ceres Hotel Owners, Legendary- Granny’s making umpteen pots of marmalade for the Church Bizarre, Secret Boerewors – Recipes, Grandfather, Great- Uncles & Fathers cooking up a storm, on duty, in Fire Brigade kitchens & legendary lasagna, bobotie, fudge or chocolate cake … [Could even throw in Olaf Bergh and Groot Constantia into story telling – from the Family tree – not including the brandy – mind you … ]
Somehow inevitable, I would be a chip off the ol’ block somehow destined to new shores – travelling was another thing that was installed into my woodwork … and Yes: Love Story Telling about my country, foodie cultures and her paleontology back yard!
With over 30 years in the Hospitality and Tourism: Working in Michelin Star restaurants, Private Villas & Historical kitchens with ovens from Union Castle Liner ovens, working with amazing ingredients from the Welsh Valleys, Indian spices, Grecian fish or octopus, caught fresh from the sea from the Islands or maybe just sampling the local wine or Mamma’s Long Island Tea off the Eastern Caribbean.
I have a restless soul and therefore have found the one way to soothe this hunger, to seek new destinations and find other like-minded folk: Finding the Cape Fusion Family, has done just that! Constantly finding new places to discover, restaurants, Chefs’ stories and new wines to try! So little time – so much to do …
